We're a Christian family of six. We've been blessed with four beautiful children. Ds11, Dd6, Ds4.5, Ds2.5.
My Dear Babe is a hubby and friend, dad, principal :o) and electrical lineman.
I am a wife and helpmeet, mom, teacher, and homekeeper.
(We look forward to date night!)
We've been homeschooling for 6 years. Last spring after coming across The Well Trained Mind by Susan Wise Bauer, I had decided to change our ways, well at least some of them. Then, once again, I came across My Father's World curriculum. I first 'found' this about 5 years ago. I wish I would've began using it then.. In January my 6th grade ds started MFW Exploring Countries and Cultures, and my two middles started MFW K.
My oldest ds's studies are:
*Bible, geography, science, vocabulary, music, art - MFW ECC
*Mind Benders Logic Puzzles cdrom
*Aleks.com for math (for now)
*Bob Jones Spelling
*Abeka Language (grammar)
*Word Roots cdrom
Abeka science, Bob Jones science (he loves sci)
He plays basketball and baseball in season. Through enrichment classes that our local homeschool group offers, he takes photograhy, comic strip art, cooking, etc.
He loves to read and draw. I'm in search of a good drum teacher for him. He likes Star Wars.
Now for the youngers...
I love the LeapFrog dvds for fun phonics introduction. Dd6 and ds4.5 have learned so much, I didn't even realize, last year through watching these while I did school with my oldest.
My dd has been enjoying MFW Kindergarten since January. We'll be finishing this soon. It includes Bible, science, character, and math and beginning phonics.
She didn't care for the "nonsense" sounds/blends that Abeka uses and that oldest ds learned to read so well with! She wanted to read "real words". After much searching and consideration, I bought Alpha-Phonics by Samuel L. Blumenfeld. She loves it! Now that she has more confidence in reading, she loves doing the Abeka Letters and Sounds K workbook.
Bob Jones K5 math is a little easy for her, so we're moving quickly through it.
We all read lots of books and love listening to audio books in the van.
I like A Reason for Handwriting.
She loves princesses, drawing and coloring, horses...
This year she has participated in some enrichment classes through our local homeschool group as well: literature, art, science, p.e.
Ds4.5 sits in with dd for K. He's my strong-willed, onry teddy bear)
I have the LeapFrog Word Whammer that he loves to play with. He also likes to practice writing letters on his 5x7 Magna Doodle.
I'm using BJU K5 math with him as well. It's right at his level. I also have a book for fun hands-on math called 1*2*3 Math: Pre-math activities for working with young children, written by Jean Warren.
He has had some fun in a few of the enrichment courses with our group such as: p.e., intro to preschool, literature, art, and science.
Since he and my dd are about 13 months apart in age, I hope to teach them together in most subjects, if not all of them, in the years to come! They are somewhat competitive with each other, so we'll see how it goes.
My youngest ds goes with the flow rather well. ~He loves LarryBoy!!! and Lightning McQueen and Thomas Train~
I include him in some fun learning and playtime! He has such a great personality! He's loving the LeapFrog dvds! He says, "I want to watch 'ABC letters'!" :o)
Well that's us... more or less.
Sorry for any typos as my wireless keyboard sometimes acts up.
Well that's my first blog entry.
